Lost an earring? You're not alone.

Martini set diamond earrings

As you may already know, many of us have a collection of single earrings that have lost its mate.

A client came to me after she lost a single diamond earring.

The good thing is she already had them appraised and insured many years ago, as they were once her mother's earrings.

First, we communicated with the insurance company to find out if we could replace the single missing earring, or if we should replace the entire pair.

Especially with diamonds, it is often easier to create a new pair of earrings rather than replace a single diamond, as no two diamonds are exactly alike. My client chose to duplicate the pair.

Loose Diamonds

Because her mother made the initial investment in an appraisal years ago, my client was able to receive the full amount from insurance to duplicate the pair.

It is always better to have an appraisal for every piece of jewelry you own, which allows you to have it insured. And the best time to do so is when you purchase a new piece.

In the end, my client even had a bit of money left over and chose to treat her husband to a new bracelet.

This is a great example of the importance of an appraisal.

All of my custom designs include an appraisal of your piece that you can use for insurance purposes.

TIP: No one plans to lose jewelry. Appraise your pieces as soon as possible to protect your collection.
