New York City: The Best Place to Sell Your Diamonds

What do you do when you live out of New York City and inherit a valuable diamond, but don't know who to turn to to sell it?

Referred by distant relative, a recent client of mine needed help selling her mother's emerald cut diamond engagement ring.

She knew it was a valuable diamond but needed a knowledgeable, trustworthy, transparent, and honest industry expert to guide her through the process.

Due to COVID restrictions, she was unable to see me in-person. However, we were able to communicate with each other via email until restrictions lessened.

While this may seem like an obstacle at first glance, we were able to communicate quite easily with all the methods available these days.

From Whats App to email, we found many ways to communicate with one another to sell her diamond.

After our initial conversations, I gained a greater understanding of what she expected from the sale.

Later, I worked with her to obtain a GIA report for the diamond and promised we would get as many offers as possible.

I did my due diligence and was able to provide her with five strong offers to sell her diamond.

We spoke about the many variables of selling on auction vs. selling direct to an independent diamond dealer.

After providing her with this information, explaining all of the offers, and detailing the pros and cons of each offer, it was up to my client to make the final decision.

Ultimately, her choice resulted in a high value sale. She was overjoyed and now, she can choose to do what she pleases with the proceeds from the sale.

TIP:  New York City is the diamond capital of the United States. When selling diamonds and precious jewelry, it is best to work with a seasoned professional within the city (either in-person or virtually) to get as many offers as possible for your jewelry.
