Timing is everything when selling your gold jewelry

I am lucky enough to have a good reputation in my industry. Because of that, when people in my network hear that someone needs help with fine jewelry, either to sell or design, they immediately think of me — and refer me.

This is exactly what happened recently. A new client had gold, diamond and ruby jewelry that she wanted to sell. When we met, I explained to her the value of her jewelry and what everything would sell for. She had some additional gold pieces that I added to the sale. As some of you might know, the price of gold just keeps on going up and, because of that, I have a great deal of interest in appraising and evaluating clients’ jewelry.

Her ruby and gold bracelet is very much from the 1950s - 1960s era with a unique clasp. I showed this bracelet to multiple estate buyers, auction houses and resellers, I shopped it around for several weeks, until I got a very a good offer.

Once I told my client how much we received for all of her gold, I met with her at her home and we discussed what we were going to do with the proceeds. We made several pieces of jewelry, which I will discuss in the next blog.

Tip: You don’t realize how much money you have sitting in your jewelry box until you have it evaluated by a seasoned professional.
